Written by Chastity Walker, MSW, LMSW. Fifteen plus years of clinical experience with trauma survivors, individuals leaving narcissistic relationships, and people rebuilding their nervous systems after life in fight-or-flight.
Before We Talk About The Book
You are not lazy. You are not broken. You are not ungrateful. You have been surviving. There is a difference, and this book draws the line in ink.
You fell asleep crying last Tuesday and still showed up on Wednesday acting like everything was fine.
You are the strong friend, the reliable one, the fixer. And nobody has ever asked if you were okay first.
You cannot remember the last time you rested without guilt whispering that you should be doing something productive.
You have read other self-help books and closed them feeling worse than when you opened them.
You confuse exhaustion with strength because that is how you have been rewarded your whole life.
You know something has to change but the idea of one more self-improvement project makes you want to lie down.
Inside The Book
This is not a hundred reframes and a page of affirmations. It is a short, honest walk through five stages of coming back to yourself, with the clinical language translated into real talk.
Learn what has actually been happening inside your body for all these years. Name it. Nothing changes until you can see it.
The slow and strange work of convincing your nervous system that the danger is over and a softer life is actually allowed.
Self-care that is not bubble baths. The real practices that rebuild a body that has been running on cortisol for a decade.
Scripts, frameworks, and the kind of language you wish someone had handed you before you learned it the hard way.
Self-love and lasting resilience. Not as a destination, but as a relationship you keep choosing. This is the long game.
I learned how to save everyone around me while I drowned in the background.Breaking Free, Chapter 1

Honest reviews from readers on Amazon and from clients who used the book alongside their therapy work.
Was very helpful and an added tool with therapy sessions. Used during the week in between sessions instead of writing down thoughts in a journal, it served as a great guideline to open up different areas that needed attention and growth.
An absolute must-read. Walker’s narrative is both heart-wrenching and uplifting. Her words resonate with a profound understanding of the human spirit, making this book a beacon of hope for anyone facing their own battles. A truly transformative read.
Great journal. It really helped me with my depression. Hope to get your next book.
Questions We Get
No. The book was written for people who are in therapy, people on a waitlist, people who cannot afford therapy right now, and people who are doing their healing work outside of a clinical setting. It is a tool, not a replacement.
It is honest. I do not pretend survival mode is a soft landing, and I do not soften what trauma does to a body. But every chapter ends with a next step, not more weight. You will not close this book feeling worse than when you opened it.
Most readers finish in two to three sittings. Some readers treat it like a slow weekly practice, reading one chapter a week and working through it. Both work. The book was written to be re-read.
The signed paperback is a real physical book with a personal inscription and my signature, shipped to your door. The signed PDF is the full book delivered digitally within minutes, with my signature printed on the title page. Same exact content, different formats.
The paperback stays available on Amazon. You will still be able to get a beautiful copy in your hands, it just will not be signed by me. The Kindle and signed PDF editions stay available as long as the book is in print.
Yes, and it makes a powerful one. If you want the signed copy inscribed to someone specific, leave a note at checkout and I will write their name on the title page before I ship it.
If you have made it this far, the book already has your attention. The signed paperback is the only version where my name goes in your handwriting, not a printer’s. When they run out, I am not reprinting this batch. Grab yours while there are still copies with your future signature waiting inside.
